What I Learned About Photography Today
5 Basic Compositional Rules from www.photographycourse.net
1. Leading Lines: used to draw attention to the main subject of the image or to draw the viewer's eyes deeper into the image.
2. The Rule of Thirds: Divide the viewfinder into thirds, vertically and horizontally. Place the subject at one of the intersecting points for the most interest.
3. Negative Space: Leave plenty of empty space to ensure the subject occupies a small portion of it.
4. Horizon Line: Should be should be 2/3 of the way up or down the photo, depending on whether the sky or the foreground is more interesting.
5. Symmetry and Patterns. Don't break up symmetry; break up patterns.
