What I Learned About My Camera Today

5 Camera Settings Everyone Should Know, from photographycourse.net

1.   Image Quality Settings:  RAW or JPEG.  RAW is all the digital data available when the photo is taken.  Useful in post-processing.  JPEG is RAW data processed and compressed in the camera.  Useful for saving space.  My camera only has JPEG capability.  JPEG has some settings too, but that's in another tutorial.

2.  EV (Exposure Value) Compensation:  A way to brighten or darken the exposure beyond the settings the camera chooses.  My camera does this.

3.  Flash EV Compensation:  Controls light intensity produced by the flash.  My camera does this.

4.  Metering Mode:  Multi:  camera uses entire scene to get correct exposure.  Center weighted:  focus on the center of whatever the lens is pointing at to get correct exposure.  Spot:  tells the camera to use a particular spot to determine exposure.  My camera does this.

5.  Focus Magnifier/Zoom:  Allows you to zoom in on an area for sharp focusing.  My camera does this.
