The Seamstress project for March was to make a chef's apron. I've never used an apron, but I have been mildly annoyed by the line of bread flour on my front when I make bread; especially since in cooler weather I wear a black sweatshirt. The usual plethora of tutorials is available on YouTube, and I chose one. Shopped fabric at JoAnn's pre-Covid-19. Here we go!
This is the fabric, pre-washed with the selvedge trimmed.
The fabric is now turned wrong side up, folded over a measured amount, and cut. The larger part becomes the main part of the apron, the remainder the neck and side ties.
Cut again for length.
This angle cut results in the basic shape of the apron.
The ties pieces are cut to length; short ones for the neck, longer for the sides.
Time to sew! Ties first, sewn right sides together, ready to turn inside out. Like the blanket, remember?
The ties are pressed. The hem of the apron piece is turned and pressed and pinned. The ties are pinned on except for one end of the neck tie for fitting. The hem is then sewn with the ties included-one fell swoop! It felt like a giant step with a huge result! It's now ready for the final fitting of the neck band and length.
Finished!
Ready for the kitchen!
