Flagstaff. Fall. Fabulous

Ah, the joy of living in a 4-season environment.  Each season its own distinctive pleasures. Fall's pleasures are the crisp temperatures and color, color, color.  Yes, one can travel to find fall and we have.  However, fall is also where you find it and all of these photos were taken either in our own yard or within short walking distance of home.

RED

We have a maple tree in our yard, and the red was outstanding this year.

  As was a nearby sumac.

YELLOW

Aspen grace the front of the house.

Meadow rue grows in the lane on the way to the forest.

Don't know what this is and didn't notice it when it was green.  It's fascinating in its yellow coat!

Another part of the lane.  Our fence on the right, the neighbors' on the left.

The pond fish are inside for the winter, and the aspen leaves find a home where ever they like!

BROWN

Beautiful gambel oak outside the upstairs deck.

A cluster of fall mushrooms found the perfect place to go about their fungal business.

These four came up in their own trapezoid shape.

Cattails in Pumphouse wash are getting fall-frowzy.

APPLES

It's been a banner year in the Flagstaff area for apples because there was no spring freeze to kill off the blossoms.  We don't have apple trees in our yard, but the neighbors do.

November Night

Listen...
With faint dry sound,
Like steps of passing ghosts,
The leaves, frost-crisp'd,
Break from the trees
And fall.
