IT'S TIME TO SAY.....

GOODBYE, JULY

July started in NE, so green it hurt our eyes.

On the day we arrived home from NE, we took the dogs out for their nightly walk on the loop trail we have from the gate.  About 2/3 of the way around, we heard the most pitiful meowing.  Sure enough, a grey tabby cat was about 35 feet up in a ponderosa and convinced she couldn't get down.  We tried coaxing her, but with no success left her to her own devices overnight.  Which ended up with her still being there in the morning.

With a different approach involving a large branch from the ground held up to give her a step, she came down.  For several days we checked for local postings of a missing cat and I checked all the cul-de-sacs near where we found her.  No one was missing a cat.  After some debate, we decided to let her stay and we'd deal with the problems we knew we'd have with Cinnamon.  We named her KitKat.

We kept her contained in a crate, on a leash, and in the house for two weeks to orient her to us and the house.  She made herself right at home.

She was very friendly and amenable to both crate and leash. She avoided Cinnamon, who attempted confrontations punctuated by the Yowl of Death--you know what I'm talking about.

Two weeks to the day of her arrival, she'd spent the day playing in the yard, coming in and out of the house for snacks and naps.  She came in in the evening and we thought we had the doors closed for the night...but didn't.  She went back outside and apparently strayed back home, because we haven't seen her since.  She left us well fed, rested, and in good shape for however long it took her to get home.  I'm sure her first family was glad to see her.  We enjoyed her visit with us.

July 13 was Cinnamon's 20th birthday.  Coincidentally, that was the day we decided to keep KitKat.  Cinnamon did NOT appreciate her birthday present.

Lea and I hiked the Highland Trail, which connects the Kachina Wetlands with Ft. Tuthill.

July 25th was brother Mark's birthday.

You know I read a few good books.

It's time to say goodbye, but I think goodbyes are sad and I'd much rather say hello.
 Hello to a new adventure.
